The Safety Link service is designed for people who spend time alone (or with a frail partner) and who may be at risk due to advanced age, ill health or a disability. It enables them to summon assistance in an emergency at the touch of a button.
The personal pendant - this is a lightweight, water resistant alarm button that can be worn discreetly, either as a neck pendant or a wrist pendant.
The alarm unit - plugs into the existing telephone system and is powered by mains electricity. It also has a battery back up in the case of power failure.
When the personal pendant is pressed it sends a radio signal to the alarm unit which in turn rings into the response centre. The pendant will work in a normal size house and suburban block
When an alarm call is received at the response centre, one of our fully trained, friendly monitoring staff will attempt to make voice contact.
If no contact is made, the monitor will telephone the first of the nominated 'contacts'. If there is no reply from the first contact, the monitor will call the second and if necessary, the third. If none of the nominated contacts are available, the ambulance or other nominated 24-hour emergency service will be called.
All contacts must be well known to the client, as they need to have a key to the client's home. As most 24-hour services will not hold keys, it is important that Safety Link be advised where a key is located.
The Safety Link service also offers a 'Daily Call' facility. Clients who use the 'Daily Call' are asked to press the daily call button on their alarm unit each morning between the hours of 6.00am and 11.00am. This means that the client is in contact with the response centre every 24 hours. If this button has not been pressed by 11.00am, a Safety Link monitor will ring to make sure all is well. If the client does not answer the call, the monitor will ring the nominated contacts and ask whoever is available to call in and check if there is a problem.
